The link to Kellys-Korner provided by sparkenh is the best of the suggestions in this thread. (It is also the quickest and safest.)

Thanks for the information.  I went to the Microsoft site and Microsoft says to not use its routine if Windows XP was installed by an OEM.  Since Dell installed I wll use the XP restore disk they sent.

I hope I don't lose my files by using the restore disk.  I appreciate your help.
