Windows root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe message?

Please help me,

I am getting this message when I turned on my dimension 2400.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt

Windows root\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe

Please re-install a copy of the above file

How do I fix that??

Thanks in advance,

Unless you have a boot disk, I believe you will need to boot from the XP installation disk and do a "repair" install. Instructions here: Click

Hang on a sec. If you do the repair/reinstall you'll have to reinstall all 300+ Microsoft updates and fixes for SP2. Try the fix here first, and possibly save yourself a lot of grief and time:

Read this and follow instructions under "Missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe file"

This is the third or fourth post I've seen in the last week with a missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe file. What's going on here...? ? ?

I`ve noticed that too on different forums.
Is there a new nasty around??

I`ve had a scout around and can`t find any references to it.
