windows update failure

Windows failed to install a update for my dell E176fpm monitor.
Error code 0x80070103 was displayed.
I'm running windows XP on Dell E310. All other updates loaded and installed o.k.
Any way to decipher the error code?
Thanks

A monitor needs an update?

Yeah!  Thats what microsoft said failed to install. maybe because there is no such update.
My computer is still under warranty and any updates, i would think, would come from Dell.
I checked my Dell updates for my monitor, and i appear to have the latest one.
Just thought i'd run this by through the forum.

I think your problem lies elsewhere.

It probably doesn't NEED an update, but there might be one available. I would guess it has the resolutions and scan frequencies supported by the monitor.

Or maybe you were just being cynical ...

daswede,

I did a quick Google search and found that error code is fairly common with hardware updates.

You might just disable the update for your monitor rather than trying to debug the error. If you are having no problems, you shouldn't need the update. Or go to Dell and see if there is an update there.

Many people have indicated they have had problems with hardware updates through Windows Update and prefer to get them directly from the HW makers.

Thanks everyone.  My monitor runs just fine.
Probably some glitch somewhere. I'm not concerned.
