Windows Update/Not Detecting IE 6 SP2

When i tried to update from:

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en-us&&thankspage=5

Got the following message:

To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.

Using IE 6.SP 2, though it is not my default browser(tried accessing with both IE and Opera and got the same error message) Would like to view my update history, but can't access the abvoe link. Can anyone advise how i can get MS to recognize my IE6.

TIA

Change your default browser to IE in Internet Options, Programs and go back to the Update site. Then change it back when you're done.

Sounds like a firewall issue, If you use a third party firewall, disable it and try the IE update again.

douglas9,

Something has corrupted your link to Windows Update. When I use the URL you posted I get the same result. Try http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and see what you get.

Tried your suggestion Mary G. Reset IE and cleared cookies. Still get the same error message....

Firewall disabled.

This just started occurring with the September updates. Previously no problems for the past five months or so.

Plan B?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Mystery Solved.

Forgot that i was using GoogleBot as my "user agent" on Ad Muncher. Disabled and no problem accessing the update link. My apologies and thanks to all who offered advice.
