Windows Vista Activation Expired

Question

When I transfered to my new XPS one I began to use my Inspirion 5160 as my backup. Now the Vista on the 5160 is expired..............I can not get help via Microsoft and the only option offered if for me to purchase another product id for $233. How can I continue to use my laptop with Vista installed?

I already read that one, but thank you. It does not help AT ALL :( It takes you to Microsoft Support who tells you to call Tech support who tells you to call Dell............

Is the copy of Vista on the 5160 a licensed copy, or is it the same copy as on you XPS system?

If you want Vista on two PC, you must own two copies of Vista, therefore you must acquire another copy!

There a numerous ways to obtain legal copies of Vista.  Student pricing is one of the best.  If you are a student or educator try to buy from your school or and education company i.e http://www.academicsuperstore.com or http://www.journeyed.com

Yes, you will lose everything on the hard drive. You could back up your files to cd. However you only have two options. Reinstall XP and start over or buy a retail copy of Vista.

Hmmm there is one way that might work, go to activate vista by phone. Toll Free option, it will give you numbers depending on your location. Say it was preinstalled on your system and then say its the same system and they will give you a code to type in and it should work if you follow the instructions given to you on screen and phone. However this is not recommended, I don't know or think anything will happen if you have both the systems online together but it will allow you to use the vista on your laptop so you can access your files for transfer.

The best solution is for you to buy another oem copy of the same edition, they are cheaper and it won't require a wipe as they are the same type of license. Again your not meant to transfer the license.
