windows vista bugs?

so, I was going to wait until windows vista came out to buy a noteobok (from dell, an inspiron) but now i'm thinking of buying a system now, with xp, and installing vista a couple months after it is released (and free of any bugs). is this a good idea? do you know how long i can hold onto my "free upgrade to vista" from dell? thanks for the help

The best thing to do would be to redeem it as quickly as possible. You don't have to upgrade until you are ready and you avoid running into any issues later on down the road trying to redeem it.

The voucher has to be redeemed pretty soon as far as I know. I think they expire in March.

You can always redeem and get the copy of Vista then upgrade later on if you choose.

Personally Ive been running vista since early in Beta2 and currently have the RTM version. I have no issues with any of the software/games I use personally.

I doubt that Vista itself will be any more "bug-free" after two months than it is today. After all, the first major service pack is probably many months away.

What probably will change in the next 3 or 4 months is better driver support for various peripherals and application updates from software vendors. But that has nothing to do with Vista itself being buggy. Vista has been remarkably stable for me, both on my notebook and on a desktop PC.

I will be sticking with XP for my desktop for the time being until Vista becomes a better gamming platform. I have seen some benchmarks and the games shown (fairly new games) run at lower FPS than XP. However this could be down to primitive drivers and this should be resolved Hopefully:smileyhappy:.

Him 92 - I don't think anyone is referring to a specific bug, but rather the idea thatn any new OS (or application) probably will contain bugs or issues that will ultimately be rectified with future patches or service packs.

Last I saw it was scheduled for release to the general public on January 30, 2007. This is the first day that you can get it off the retail shelf, or shipped on a new PC.

If you have the upgrade coupon, you should be able to get your copy of the disc sometime aorund the middle of February and then go thru the upgrade process yourself.

Dell willl be shipping pre-installed Vista systems on 30 jan.

I bought my laptop before the Vista express offer:smileysad:

I'm not too bothered though because I'm hoping to get a bigger harddrive for my laptop and install a full edition of vista on it. I'm hoping to keep my current hard disk as a spare with XP on it, which may be handy if vista does not like a certain application:smileyhappy:

How do you get the coupon??
I thought when I buy a Dell computer like XP 710 or 700 when the day come
I will be able to upgrade to Vista full version of it
Dang I think this means my XP will be able to install Vista when it comes out
and I have to buy it??

If you want to try your luck with the Express Vista Upgrade rebate, go here:
https://www.dellvistaupgrade.com/default.aspx

However it says my Dimension 9200 does not qualify for the upgrade even though there are 3 web pages on Dell's site and 2 papers that came with the computer that say otherwise.
