Windows Vista Feature Pack

This software is only available from the vendors site. Does anyone know if Dell will or will not be

releasing this software as an upgrade.

A couple of days ago Microsoft released a new update for Windows Vista that adds additional wireless support and functionality to the operating system through a “feature pack”. Specifically it adds support for Bluetooth 2.1, a new “Unified Pairing” interface as well as “Windows Connect Now” updates and can only be installed on Vista SP1.

The following info is from the Microsoft site.
This article describes the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless. This software update includes the following components or features that improve wireless support in Windows Vista: • Bluetooth version 2.1 support • Unified Pairing user interface • Windows Connect Now updatesSome of these features may work with existing hardware. However, you must have new hardware to take advantage of the new functionality.

This update is compatible with all versions of Windows Vista. It can be installed only on a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).

I, too, am waiting to download this update.  I left a similar message at the following yesterday:

Has anyone seen where we can download this from? I've heard it is available today from Dell.

I can't seem to locate the download though...  Whats the URL?

Just to clarify the opening message, Microsoft's document states:  "To download this software update, contact the manufacturer of the computer.".  I think this distinction is important.

So, isn't Dell the manufacturer of the computer. I'm not sure if I get the point

of this message.

Hi Ron – You said  that "This software is only available from the vendors site.", and I was clarifying that the Microsoft document didn't say vendors, it said "To download this software update, contact the manufacturer of the computer."  The difference is that some others in a parallel thread were inaccurately pointing the onus onto bluetooth vendors, etc. as their interpretation of Microsoft's document.

Since my PC is out of warrantee, this appears to be the only way to get the update for my Windows Vista Business SP1 OS that is prepared to be updated to support bluetooth 2.1 (I currently support v2.0 Class 1 devices)-- I don't live here in these forum as do some others (not directed at you), and came only for this reason, not to argue the meaning of the word "it"...  :smileywink:
