windows xp copy

Question

Hi everyone,

My step son and I go at this all the time.
I understand the argument, but the rules say that one copy of an OS for every computer.

With that in mind can anyone give me some info on the ramifications if caught copying winXp.

The EULA  says 'one copy of the Software on a computer' , but this was to stop Pirates copying Software to other Computers so I think you can install several copies of OS on the same computer if you want. (taken care of by use of Product Key activation) If 2 copies of XP Home on two partitions in case one won't boot , I can then boot to 2nd partition & access files of 1st partition. Its illegal to put the same XP OS on two computers , I have read that sometimes Microsoft has removed an unlicensed XP OS. ??? Message Edited by gryjhnhpe on 11-28-2003 01:45 PM

Each PC must have a licensed copy of the OS.  You will not be able to activate the copy on a second machine.   Unactivated copies stop running after 30 days.  The EULA (End User License Agreement) covers this.  You can can be sued by Microsoft, and at least in theory can be charged crimially, especially if the copying in flagrent

deesmygal, OEM version one copy to use on the computer is came with. Retail you also can only use on one computer but the computer of your choice.
