Windows XP home Recovery

Question

I believe later Dell PCs come with no recovery disk, and instead there is a recovery item that can be used from start up. Is it possible to still use this utility to restore the PC to factory settings ig the partition with the operating system on it has been formatted? All other partitions on the hard disk have been left alone and should be in their original state. Thanks in advance...

Though logically (or perhaps in theory), I'd say, yes it should still be useable even if you format the OS Partition. But in my experience it doesnt always work.   I think its because of the following... When you start the OS Install and you get to the option to delete/re-create the OS Partition, you destroy the partiton order. Your Image Partition can no longer see where to write the files too..especially since during the recreating of the OS Partition, you can re-size it (which also complicates things).   This is not really an answer to your question, more of a thought on it. Sorry. Hopefully someone who knows can answer.

Thanks for all your help guys, the PC is not mine and the guy who owns the machine is away for the weekend, when he gets back I'll try the system restore :-) Thanks for the link to page about the restore process.
