update: i think i'm wrong about the problem: it probably doesn't see the HDD, because Windows XP doesn't come with SATA drivers.
i can't find a setting in the BIOS/System Setup to have it function as ATA or IDE or whatever on revision 1.1.8.

0x0000007B BSOD is likely due to the SATA mode. check your BIOS and set it to IDE/Legacy instead of AHCI. you can also wipe the Fujitsu HDD completely before trying again. Should fix the issue!
