Windows XP ReFormat
Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this post . . . I am new to this forum.
I am getting ready to reformat my three year old Dimension XPS B__r which has been currently running Windows XP Home Edition for the past year. I will be reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition on it. In order to create a backup of all my current documents and settings, do I need to just only backup the "Documents and Settings" folder? What about all my email, address book, and email settings (I use MS Outlook, by the way)? Are they contained in the "Documents and Settings" folder, or are they located somewhere else? Are there any other folders/files that I should be concerned about saving in a backup?
Also, if anybody knows of a good link that can walk me through the whole reformatting procedure, I would be most grateful.
Again, thank you in advance . . . this forum is great !!!

There is a good description of backing up your Outlook data here. In addition to the *.pst file you should also back up anything you have created (documents, graphics) or downloaded (music, graphics, program updates). Anything you have that is on CD (applications, operating system, drivers) does not need to be backed up.
A guide for reinstalling Windows XP with appropriate links is available here.

Thanks, Denny. The links you provided are great. Hopefully, with the help of these sites, my task of reformatting my C drive and then reinstalling Windows XP along with all of my current documents and settings will be smooth.
Again, thank you for your help. Hope I can contribute to this forum sometime down the road.

Again thanks for your advice Denny. The two links you suggested were very helpful. I was able to follow the directions most of the way on both sites . . . with the exception of one part on the "Microsoft Outlook Backup" site. About two thirds into the text, under the subheading "Backing Up Accounts in Microsoft Outlook Email Software", I could not follow the directions that were given. Here they are:
"Again, make sure the highlighted folder is an email folder. Click tools>account. Highlight an email acoount, and click export."
The "click tools>account. Highlight an email account, and click export" sequence, I could not follow. Is there some instructions missing here? Is there a typo? Perhaps I'm starting at the wrong point? Because . . . when I clicked "Tools" on the menu bar, there was no "Account" to then click to. There was, however, an "Email Account." But when I click "Email Account", there is no email account to highlight, nor is there an "Export" to then click to.
Could you possibly check the site and determine what I'm missing? I'm stumped. Thanks so much for your help.
