Windows XP system restore setting is not holding
Dell Dimension DIM4600 INTEL(R) Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 Ghz 512 MB of Ram
Reinstallation Cd is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1a
The setting to monitor hard drives not holding on System Restore. When I turn off
the PC and the next time that I turn it on, the System Restore has reset to disable it.
There is enough free space. There is confirmed idle time for it to run.
Windows management Instruentation (WMI) is automatic and running.
The Task Scheduler is automatic and running.
Framedyn.dll exists in WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
I do not have "Statemgr" on my system.
I have tried re-installing System Restore ---- no luck.
I have tried running Windows XP repair, but it keeps asking me for Service Pack 1
I have spent hours researching this problem, with no luck.
Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You're not being very clear. Exactly what do you mean by "System Restore"?
System Restore is an XP function that undoes recent changes to XP system files and settings. I don't understand how that relates to "The setting to monitor hard drives", and I don't know how you're "tried re-installing System Restore".

Ron,
I get to the System Restore panel by START/CONTROL PANEL/PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE/SYSTEM
to bring up the SYSTEM PROPERTIES PANEL. The SYSTEM RESTORE tab contains the "Turn off
System Restore" option.
I clear the box to enable System Restore. At the end of the day, I turn off my PC. The next day
when I turn the PC on and look at the SYSTEM RESTORE tab, the box has a check mark in it and
the system restore is disabled.
As for re-installing SYSTEM RESTORE. I found some instructions on google, but they did me no good.
Thanks

OK, got it now.
Have you scanned for malware lately?
How much hard disk space is free and when was last time it was defragged?
You could try running a windows system file check:
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click OK
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it and reboot when it's done.
And if none of that helps, go here and copy/paste the entire, exact, text into a blank Notepad file. Save the file on your desktop as save.reg (not as a .txt file). Close all open apps and windows then double-click on the file on your desktop. Accept the offer to modify the registry. This will tell XP to save all your settings on exit.
