Question

Have downloaded WinMx but do not know how to work this thing.  It takes me forever to find a song that will actually download.  Is there a trick to this that I should know of?  Is there certain songs that can or cannot be downloaded?  It seems like I'm forever trying to download a song and they just don't seem to want to download, does anyone know why or what I'm doing wrong?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

By any chance are you using dial-up? It is best to steal, er...um...download with cable internet. Dial-up will take FOREVER to steal....oops...er....um....download anything. That could be some of your problem. If you are on cable, or similar, then you just need to look for the files highlighted in GREEN with available downloads. Trying to download something in Queue (or whatever it is) is futile. Hope this makes your stealing..dang it...DOWNLOADING, more pleasureable. Eh...

Not really, sorry.  I don't understand it.  I'm not familiar with this software at all and do not understand any of it.  I was told that WinMx was a good software to download, not to use the Kazaa.  I just wish I knew how to get the songs to download, it takes forever to try to figure out which ones will take and which ones don't, very frustrating, but I would like to learn.  Any ideas?

I'm using version 3.31.  I have comcast cable but will not let me have the primary connection that's used for cable or DSL.  It only let's me use the secondary connection which is used for dial-ups and I don't have dial-up.  What should I do?

The secondary connection is fine for steali..I mean downloading. .(darn you Hoser).I have a cable connection and use the secondary connection. What you have to do is realize you must download files that say "available". At the top of your search list. Yes, many files are being downloaded by others and you must wait in line or "queue". Just the nature of the beast. It surely is not a quick process.

But WinMX has no spyware attached. Also a good idea to scan every file you download with your anti-virus before opening(playing).

PS..and of course only download files that are not copyright protected.

Downloading music off the internet free of charge is considered stealing. You are getting it for free when you should be paying for it. Downloading music is copyright infringement and illegal. You can get seriously fined for such activity. Why don't you check out a paying, leagal and safe service such as:

www.itunes.com

www.napster.com

If your connection is behind a router then you must use the Secondary Method for connecting.  The program will opena port for traffic inflows.

IMHO Kazaa-Lite is THE best P2P sharing software. It uses the Kazaa-Grokster network and is without Spyware and/or ads.  I regularly find that 3-4 million users are online at the same time and download speeds are fast. Of course, downloading music with this software is illegal, as well as downloading movies, books, other software and everything you can find with it.....just so you know it Regards, Rick

Thanks Internet 2000.  Which of these paid ones do you prefer?  I had Kazaa on my computer but my Ad-aware and Spybot always take it off so it has to have adware in it's software.  I will, by all means, pay for a music site so I will be safe.  Why are there so many people out there that use the freebies all the time if it's not legal?  Does anyone ever get caught?  Thanks.

Probably for the same reason that people purchase books and then let their friends and relatives read them; This is just as illegal, but never mentioned. Sure, now that downloading files is big news everyone has jumped on the bandwagon about being ethical. Let your conscience be your guide.

I would recommend using MusicMatch at 99 cents a song. You can use the basic version that is free for download or you can get the plus version with more features for $19.99 USD (One Time Fee) and if you would like future updates for the plus version there is an additional fee of $39.99 USD. To me it makes more sense (If you are going to purchase plus) to get the future updates considering the fact there seems to be a new version and improved features about every few months. That way you are up-to-date all the time.

Can you burn the .mp3 files that you download on audio cd?

Also, do you have the choice of audio quality for the .mp3 files? (I prefer 256k or higher .mp3)

Do these software contain spyware and/or adware and/or banner ads? I find them very annoying and would not pay for ads.

I might consider going "legal" if a couple of issues were resolved, particularly those.
