Wrong Display following install of SP2?

Question

I had to re-install Windows due to slow performance.  Everything seemed to be working fine; I installed all the available Windows Updates.  The last one to install was the SP2, and afterwards whenever I reboot the display looks like it's in safe mode.  It is not in safe mode, though; I tried hitting F8 at the Dell screen, chose to start Windows normally and it says it does!  I am unable to change screen resolution, colors, or choose which monitor is installed (it says default monitor).  PLease help!  Keep in mind I'm not the most computer literate person.....  :)  Thanks a bunch.

First thing to try is to install your video drivers . . be sure they are the latest available. wrs

I need to pipe in here on this one, I have the same prob....have a E152FP LCD, and when I got everything changed out to SP2, went over to update the driver (it shows it's ON the system), and it's not allowing me to....even went over to Dell and re-loaded the driver..just doesn't seem to know it's there....

It took me quite a while, but finally after installing the drivers my display did work correctly.  HOwever, as I recall, I had to be sure to remove the CD from the drive BEFORE restarting -- otherwise, it just went back to the wrong display again.

Appreciate the thought, went that way too...even removed and reinstalled....nuttin!

Might try removing the Video Card in Device Manager and rebooting . . let Windows redetect it and load the drivers.   wrs

Sounds like this might be the right direction...all "other devices", ethernet controller, multimedia audio and video are all "?"...so I had uninstalled all of them and Windows found them all, trouble now seems to be in the New Hardward install Manager when it's looking for the drivers for those cards....so then I took alone the Video, took it out (knowing that I have the driver for the LCD installed) and did a browse for it...and it won't let me....sigh!

Did you install the chipset drivers after you reinstalled XP? . . they will impact how everything else is handled. wrs

Er...I'm gonna sound real stupid, but....what? Hope it's gonna be a real short explination on that one...lol! But, how is that done? I've looked at everything from Dell and...?

Ok...found the download on that, installed and rebooted...then uninstalled all the other devices and rebooted. Problem becomes the Wizards come up when Windows see the "new" hardware and I'm selecting the install drivers automatically, when it tells me it's not seeing them....I'm thinking I'm gonna have to tell them in browse where the drivers are (or at least where I think they are), and that's in the C drive/Dell/Drivers, where I see the five folders..

Other than that right now, I don't know just what to tell the machine what to do..

Ok....

Need to refresh this a little to see if anyone is seeing something here, seems like after upping to SP2, having a he** of time with drivers...here's an example of what I did...

Of course, with my LCD panel, had to go to get the driver (R67918.EXE), install it which all the files is where they were put c:dell/drivers/R67918, then going to device manager and following the driver upgrade, the Wizard says the files aren't there.....Darn... I'm looking at them in browse!! Any thoughts?

Click Product Support button at the top left of this page . . navigate to downloads for your model, download and install. The chipset drivers should be the first driver installed after installing XP.

Here's the links that Dell sent me, being SURE to do them in order (apparently Windows doesn't enjoy they way I tried, with the Video drivers first) the only one I did do first, was the chipset that others (thanks!) have suggested, just to insure they were correct...

But, all is finally kinda *well* in my world...lol...thanks to all that gave comment!
