Hi, because it says so. I had an e-mail back from Dell who told me to contact Microsoft. Microsoft say it is for Dell to sort out. I have checked the product several times and got a friend to as well and it is definately wrong.
if you've used a keyfinder in vista, you will find that the key on the installed version is different to the label on the side of your case. don't worry about it as you'll find you installed copy is activated.

Sorry but you are wrong. It is clearly printed on the back of the CD envelope that the COA is is located on the side or bottom of the computer which mine is. Anyway, hopefully the problem will be sorted with the new CD. I live in hope.
No, I don't think I'm wrong. The COA for the Operating System is located on the computer, but the COA and Product Key for Office is located on the Office CD packaging. I know of NO Dell computer where the MS Office COA is attached to the computer. If yours is different, then this is either a new Dell procedure or you are mistaken.

Thankyou a thousand times for answering MY problem. I contacted Microsoft and they said I would have to buy a 'proper' version from a retailer. I looked everywhere for the product key and when I saw your response to this other person I was thrilled. IT WORKED!.

Hi, the Microsoft one and its on the top of the computer, 25 digits long. I am sure it is the right one unless someone can tell me differently.

it's got to do with dell volume licence with MS.

You still didn't answer the question - What product? Is it the operating system (Vista or XP) or is it another application (like Microsoft Office)?
