XP booting very slowly and programs unable to run
Hi:
Since the past two days, my XP machine does not seem to completely boot and the hour glass remains all the time. I have checked for viruses and adware from the safe mode and the chkdsk also shows the hard disk is fine. I have tried repair using the original XP bootable CD. But the problem remains.
The task manager showed one version of SVCHOST was 25000K and took up 99 of the CPU usage. Could that be the problem. If so how do I resolve it? Thanks.

Taken from answersthatwork.com:
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone – multiple instances of SVCHOST is a normal occurrence.
