xp defragmenter vs symantec disk optimizer

Question

What is the difference between the standard defragement tool and the norton symantec disk optimizer tool? They seem to have a similar function. If I defragment, do I have to use the optimizer as well? Thank You

Between those two choices, I'd pick the (Microsoft) Windows XP defragger....  I don't trust Norton for anything... but that's just my opinion and is worthless. There's also a Diskeeper program; I've read on various forums that it works quite well too. I've never used it so I have no experience with it. The built-in XP defrag is more than dequate for my pc here; I have a very lean computer with not too much on it.

Yes, try out Diskeeper Lite.    It is the free version of Diskeeper and works very well.  You get a nag screen to buy the full edition every time you run it, but just click that away and carry on.   http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1207
