XP Home to Pro Upgrade Problem

I just upgraded my Dell machine from XP Home to XP Pro.  After the upgrade windows lost my modem.  The problem is discribed in MS Knowledge Base Article 329441.  My question concerns their solution.

I would like to reinstall SP1, but that is built into the XP CD I got from Dell and can't be defined seperately.  There is a SVCPK folder with .exe files named Qnnnnn.exe.  If I run these .exe files would that acomplish the same as installing service pack 1?  MS's other solution was to modify the registry manually, which I would like to avoid if possible.

Goto the following link to download SP1. Download it and run it to reinstall SP1. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/network.asp
