XP Shipping with Internet Explorer 6?
We just received our first of many-to-come Dell notebook for our business. It is a Latitude E6500 notebook. I've never really paid close attention in the past, but this time I was surprised to discover that the machine shipped with IE6. I realize that this is what XP comes with, but considering all the other Windows updates that have been installed at the factory, I was confused as to why IE8, or even IE7 was not installed. Is this simply because this is a business machine and some business are still having trouble with web-app compatibility in anything past IE6?

Some OEMs upgrade to the latest version of IE. Just wondering why Dell didn't.

No kidding :emotion-20: . I'm asking about the version, not IE itself. We're up to Internet Explorer 8. IE 6 was released over 8 years ago. I'm asking why Dell is shipping XP with most of the recent Windows updates installed but not the most recent version of IE.

My question has nothing to do with Microsoft. I am asking why Dell intentionally did not upgrade IE6 to IE7 or 8.

The default version of IE will be 6 for windows XP even if it is Windows SP3. Is not Dell who need to upgrade the OS Apps to the latest version available is a Microsoft thing.

Because this gives the end user the choice, and that IS a good thing for a change.
