XP SP2 Network Install from Microsoft Downloads site
direct from microsoft's download site. it's very slow right now, only pulling 115KB/sec
DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows Update. To receive this download, turn on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP to receive an optimized download of SP2. Please visit Protect Your PC for more information on receiving Windows XP SP2.

I think the server is really fast... I've just downloaded the whole thing (German version) in about three minutes... 1.2 MB/s, I love my university.
But I'm afraid of installing it, because I'm writing my dissertation on my notebook right now and I don't believe in Microsoft (but in Murphy's Law).
So, has anybody tested the update right now?

SP2 has been exhaustively tested by beta testers and found to be stable. However, it has not been tested on your computer. Mister Murphy is much older than Mr. Gates and if I had a dissertation on my computer the last thing I would consider doing is installing a major service pack (Restore Points notwithstanding).

The installation went fine on my inspiron5100 but I did do a clean install so I wasn't expecting any problems...
Here's to updating programs and software for the rest of the night :)

Guys! I envy your download speed....I only have 50k/sec in my 512k DSL....
Hydra, how did you find that Microsoft link?
I installed SP2 in my Dell and it would freeze at the login screen. Luckily I created a restore point, so I restored back to SP1 using System Restore with a Safe mode boot.
I plan to clean install WinXP SP2 Integrated in the near future. (I hope that by clean installing everything will run smoothly as opposed to patching)

So finally I installed SP2, after making some copies of my dissertation!
Everything is fine so far (touch wood), had no problems during installation!
But it was quite funny, it took about three minutes to download SP2, the installation took 50 minutes on my I8600, now I'm waiting for the next security leaks

I found a link to a site which contains valid CSS code that complies with the W3C standards ... which crashes Internet Explorer. (On Sp2)
Quite shocked

Maybe we'll see IE 7 sooner than later then.

I think it will come much later, even past Longhorn release. (Longhorn has IE 6.05)
