xp upgrade to dimension xps b___r

I just upgraded from 98se to xp. After a couple hours of microsoft tech support, it was determined I need a motherboard driver for the new os to work properly. The problem is this: when I shut down the machine it automatically restarts. Any idea where to find updated driver?

I'm not sure what they mean by motherboard driver, maybe chipset drivers? In any event, Dell does not list one for your system, which leads me to believe XP provides native support. I suggest you take a look at this for help: Shutdown problems in Windows XP

gman0529,

Did you upgrade to XP on top of 98 or do a clean install?

Did you upgrade your system BIOS to the latest available before installing XP?

gman0529,

The mobo in the XPS B uses the Intel 820 chipset.  It is native to Windows ME, 2000 and XP.

Right.  My B600r runs XP just fine with no special steps.
