XPS 710 sound problem, is it the driver?

Hey guys help me out here, by this you mean the weird crakling sound that my soundcard makes in vista?...

I went thru and beyond to install vista on my XPS 710.. i had to remove 2 gbs of ram.. install it (64 bit) then put the ram back.. that didnt work so i put the ram out again, installed a windows update that fixes the problem and installed the ram again, now it works and vista detects all 4gb no problem.

2 things i notice since then... one. my XFi Music soundcard sometimes makes a weird crakling sound.

two is that when i boot up my computer, the "Detecting Array" thing takes longer than usual, it usualy just showed up then right away it showed my raid array, now it stays a few seconds in Detecting Array . . . . . until i hear a click on my machine and then it detects it. the funny thing is this didnt start happening until after I installed the serial ata drivers for vista 64 i downloaded from dell.

other than that, it seems to be working great.

oh another thing, i use a wireless usb network device to connect to my homenetwork, I would normaly use PCI but all my pci slots are taken. Anyways, I have 2 dlink's and one linksys and there seems to be absolutely NO support for these devices for vista 64 bit!! this is annoying, I have to take a direct cable from my router going over furniture and making a mess just so i can connect.

any future support planed for this?

oh also one last question (sorry!) this is my first time with a 64 bit system... will I have any trouble running games? (battlefield 2142, planetside, ghost recon etc... and future games)

hey Kuhn.. I canot provide too much help on your sound problems because i have the same system as you and i'm also having audio trouble.  My thing is the wireless network drivers for my N.draft card.. Anyways i can however help you out on your game issue.  You can do one of two things.  Once the game appears on your Games explorer.  (where all the other games are at.. minesweeper..etc.) If its not there just create a link from the .exe file to the games explorer as a shortcut.  Once the shortcut is in the explorer right click it, select customize, then the play option should be highlighted, click on edit towards the bottom.  Once the pop up comes up click on advanced, then lastly make sure the "Run as administrator" is checked, and it should take care of your problem.  Same thing for any other game like bf2.
If that doesn't seem to help you, you can always disable all the questions windows vista asks.. i.e  do you want to run this... are sure about that other thing... its really annoying.. Go to control panel user accounts, then the last option "Turn user Account Control on or off", and uncheck the UAC restart your pc and its the end of the questions. Those are some of the problems I ran into when installing vista 64bit. Hope this helps.

Yes! I also have 64 bit version of vista and all my games are running fine.. bf2, 2142, BHD.  Just follow the steps i wrote above and you should be fine as well.  You dont' have to switch to vista 32.  Only at some points for other things you just have to do a little bit more digging on the net to get the software and drivers you need.
