Pocketcloud on IPAD2 with external VGA connector inconsistent behaviour

Pocketcloud on IPAD2 with external VGA connector inconsistent behaviour

I am wanting to use the ipad VGA connector to display the ipad2 display on a projector for training purposes. PocketCloud seems to function in two completely different ways. Sometimes it simply mirrorrs the ipad screen exactly, like all other apps do, so the pocketcloud toolbar is displayed, the mouse is displayed, I can zoom in on the ipad and the projector reflects this.

Othertimes, as soon as I launch pocketcloud, I get a grey screen saying Pocket Cloud Initialised and telling me to choose External Video On once connected to a host. This works, but means I cant display the connection process, and once connected, the screen is full screen only, zooming on the ipad does nothing on the projector, and the toolbar, onscreen keyboard, mouse etc are never displayed. This seriously limits its use for training purposes, when I want do demonstrate how to use all of those features to people.

What is most frustrating to me is I cant work out what triggers it to behave one way or the other. There is certainly nothing to manually switch from one mode to the other that I can find.

Hi dmaunder did you disconnect the vga adapter while you were in session or turned it off using the menu?

Hi,

Currently we only support showing the desktop without the mouse cursor using the VGA adapter.

Using the HDMI adapter from Apple will allow you to mirror the entire app: http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/mirroring.html. Please note that we haven't enabled this new API yet but may in the near future.

Suchitha,

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting at all possible times, couildnt get it to happen "on demand".

Chris,

Well while preparing a training session last night, on quite a few occasions, it went into true mirror mode rather than the limited full screen method. The point is that every other app, old or new ipsad or iphone specific app is mirrored onto the VGSA monitor except pocket cloud. I think this is a standard function of ios which you are.

While I would suggest an enhancement to make it easy to switch between the two modes (I do see the use of the full screen mode) I would really just like to understand how to force it into mirror mode now, or understand how to do it on demand.

Yes I have seen it flip between desktop only and mirror modes on my iPad 2 as well. This is not the correct behavior and is a bug. In our next release we plan to always have mirrored mode enabled on the iPad 2. Sorry for this inconvenience but there is no way around it until the next update comes out.
