Allow users to configure their resolution

Hello team, I have searched every where with no luck for a solution. We have the 3030 devices and want the users to have the ability to manage/configure their own screen resolution. In the WDS we have the settings configured for DDC. Someone mentioned removing these two lines from the wnos.ini file. When I looked in the ini file, those lines are not there. So here I am, thanks for any suggestions

Remove two lines from my wnos.ini file.

Screen=1 Resolution=DDC

Screen=2 Resolution=DDC

This option will depend on your "PRIVILEGE=" setting. If you have it set for LOW or NONE, you need the add the following option:

Privilege=None ShowDisplaySettings=Yes

Please note that they will have to change the resolution every time they reboot.

If you want to avoid having the end-user change the resolution after every reboot, you can add the "Include=$MAC.ini" parameter at the end of your WNOS.INI file. See example below on how to use the "Include=MAC.INI" parameter.

Summary of the process

1.  In the WNOS.INI file, add the following line "Include=$MAC.INI" at the end of the file
2.  In the WNOS folder, create a folder (directory) named "INC"
3.  In the INC folder create a .INI file
4.  Create a .INI file for every device with a different monitor configuration
5.  Reboot the thin client to verify configuration

Situation:
We have to different thin client that need to have specific monitor configuration but all other thin clients have the same monitor configuration. I want to be able to manage these two thin clients individually. Their MAC addresses are 0080646C32EA and 008064604AED.

About the Thin clients:
0080646C32EA is an 5010 with Dual 1920x1080 Monitors, 32Bit Color depth. We want the monitor on the left side (connected to the DP1 port) to be the primary monitor and the monitor on the right side (connected to the DP2 port) to be in portrait mode. The monitors will be sitting side by side.

008064604AED is a 3040 with a single 1920x1200 Monitor, 32Bit Color depth, and all other monitors use a standard 1024x768 resolution.

Solution:

1.  In the WNOS.INI file, add the following line at the end of the WNOS.INI file:
 Include=$MAC.INI
2.  In the INC folder, create a file named 0080646C32EA.INI  to match the MAC address of our 5010
3.  In the 0080646C32EA.INI file add the following:

 ;**********************************************************
 ;******************   Display   ***************************
 ;**********************************************************

 DualHead=Yes \
         ManualOverride=Yes \
         MainScreen=1 \
         Taskbar=MainScreen \
         Orientation=Hort \
         MonitorAutoDetect=Yes \
         EnsureDplsOn=No

 Screen=1 \
         Resolution=1920x1080 \
         Refresh=60 \
         Rotate=None

 Screen=2 \
         Resolution=1920x1080 \
         Refresh=60 \
         Rotate=Right

 DeskColor="255 255 255"

 DesktopColorDepth=32

 Exit=All

4.  In the 008064604AED.INI file add the following:

        ;**********************************************************
        ;***************   Display ********************************
        ;**********************************************************

        DualHead=No
        Resolution=1920x1200 Refresh=60
        DeskColor="255 255 255"
        DesktopColorDepth=32
        Exit=All

5.  Power on the devices and your devices should power up with the correct monitor configuration.

The MAC.INI file will only be executed for the specific MAC address and any settings in this file will overwrite any corresponding settings in the WNOS.INI file.

Please note that the model number are used for this example only and the parameters can be used (in most cases) for any ThinOS client. See INI reference guide for any exceptions.

For more information, please refer to the Wyse ThinOS INI Reference Guide specific to your Wyse ThinOS version.

Hope this information helps.

Is this still the way to let users configure resolution, or has something changed in newer versions?

This method seems a little crazy.

I am allowing this with a collection of 3040 and 5070 clients that are managed from WMS 1.2. In the ThinOS settings there is a "Show Display Settings (8.5+)" option under the security settings. This works even with the privilege level set to none.

Thanks.

Looks like this option is only available under the "zero launchpad" options. I have Vmware selected (since we are a horizon shop). Not sure what difference it makes...
