Performance issues when connecting to Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2
There is a big performance difference when playing flash video on Windows 8/Server 2012 and Windows 8.1/Server 2012R2. When connecting to an RDP8.1 system (Win8.1/Server2012R2) the performance drops immensely. Flash videos no longer play fluently, resizing Flash video windows result in freezes, overall performance is far less snappy. All tests are done on D10D and the RDP8 and RDP8.1 VM's are running on the same backend and are similarly sized.

Thank for the feedback and this does sound interesting.
I tried to connect to Win8.1 remote session as well on my PC with RDP8 Windows client, comparing to RDP Win8 remote session:

Same size online flash video FPS____________30_______________10
Flash video frame drop count_______________23______________557
I would not say the visual experience is immensely worse though it is somehow downgraded - could you help to try it on Windows client or D50D as well?

Hi Leon,
When using a D90Q8 with RDP8 client the performance issues are also there. It looks like the issues are caused when you connect with an RDP8 client to an RDP8.1 backend. Afaik there is no official RDP 8.1 update for Windows 8 (you can only update to Windows 8.1 to be able to get RDP 8.1). There is however an option to use RDP8.1 on Windows 7.
Do you have the option to test from a WES7 device with and without http://support.microsoft.com/KB/2830477 to see if you see similar behavior?

Performance from my Windows 8.1 laptop (so RDP8.1) and a D90Q8 (so RDP8) are similar and both better than when using the D10D to connect to Windows 2012 R2. Unfortunately I don't have Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 available to connect to but from past experiences and tests I know the overall performance felt better and snappier both from D10D as well as from WES7/8. So looks like RDP8.1 in general is causing the user experience to be less. Strange but something that Microsoft has to take care of.

Well I don't have that option but I do have a Laptop with Windows 8.1 installed, which is with RDP 8.1 I believe.
The experience is close to the RDP8 with Win8.1 remote session:
