ThinOS 10 install/compatibility Problems
I just wanted to say that I am completely dissatisfied with Dell Support (here in the forum) and ThinOS 10. I currently use the free standard version at home, which is why I only use the forum for support. But Dell doesn't provide any help here. ThinOS 9 worked wonderfully the whole time, but with ThinOS 10 there are only problems that really shouldn't be there.
I have currently tried to upgrade a 5470 notebook and a 5070 thin client to ThinOS 10. According to the hardware compatibility list, both are suitable for ThinOS 10. The installer's compatibility check also says so. Neither device can be upgraded to ThinOS 10 via WMS or the offline USB installer. Both installers abort without a meaningful error message. According to the compatibility list, 32 GB of memory is required, but both devices only have 16 GB. This may be an error on my part, but why does the compatibility check and the list say that it can be installed? I also don't understand why the installer doesn't ask where it should be installed. What if I want to convert a third-party device with multiple hard drives? Or just added an m2 SSD? On my first attempt, I had a USB stick with two partitions and ThinOS wanted to install itself on the stick where the image was located.... This Problems has been the same since the first three versions of ThinOS 10. A other problem with the 5070 upgrade over WMS has already been reported here, but there has been no conclusive answer.
Other inquiries about problems also remain unanswered. I understand that this is free of charge, but it would still be good if the problems here were addressed, which would certainly lead to improvements and solutions in the paid area in the end. I can also open support tickets if desired, but I don't think they will solve my problems there, but only put me off, as is usually the case with large companies and their support, especially as a non-paying customer. Don't get me wrong, I think Dell, ThinOS, and the possibility of using it for free are fantastic, but when you have problems, you feel left alone and it's frustrating.
I hope that this will be corrected soon, especially with regard to the compatibility check and the selection of the hard drive. Or at least the addition to the compatibility table that the devices must be equipped with 32 GB.
However, with kind regards
