WSM license purchasing vs Vworkspace

CDW today told me that my order from a week ago for WSM licenses was cancelled due to those licenses being discontinued and are now absorbed into the vWorkspace line.  My rep said there isn't a clear cut way for him to sell me vWorkspace licenses yet, but he is looking to see if it is possible.

I pretty desperately wanted these licenses for an expansion here, have the boxes, the users starting soon - but no licensure to make this happen.

I use WSM 6.0, what are we supposed to do for licenses?  Anyone know?

Eric,

when you purchased WSM in the past, you got a use right for the software which ends as specified in the license file.

Software maintenance provides access to the latest and greatest version while maintenance is active and was sold seperately. When maintenance is inactive, you can still use the Software because you own it.

WSM was only sold with one year maintenance, with the Option to extend it to up to three years at the time of purchase, or renewing maintenance before moving to inactive state.

If you don't have active WSM maintenance, the license Swap program is not applicable. However, you can renew your maintenance by purchasing vWorkspace Permier Edition per Access Device (which includes one year maintenance and is perpetual too).

Hello Eric,

for customers with exiting WSM Maintenance there's a license swap program in place to exchange current WSM licenses to vWorkspace Premier Edition per Access Device licenses at no cost. If you don't have active maintenance for the existing licenses, we can offer to upgrade them to the vWorkspace maintenance program.

Unfortunately we cannot issue legacy WSM licenses anymore, so you must upgrade your WSM Servers to Version 7.2 to add new devices, for which you will have to purchase vWorkspace Premier Edition per Access Device license (includes 1 year Maintenance).

Your local Dell Cloud client-computing sales team will Support you on the license swap and can for sure help to get vWorkspace licenses for the new devices.

Please have a look at this post too, as it explaines how to Access the latest version of WSM going forward.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Mhaase,

You were always very helpful on the other forum, glad to see you've transitioned here as well.  We have WSM maintenance but I have no idea on how to find my local CCC person.  We buy our tech from CDW generally but he's in the dark as I was.  Is there an easy way to find which Dell CCC person/team I should deal with?

In case the other forum is closed, here's the relevant helpful post from MHaase pasted here:

WSM is now part of the Wyse vWorkspace Premier Edition, and both products can be used stand alone or in combination. Upcoming Versions will have a tighter Integration, but if you want to only WSM in the future this path is still open.

WSM 7.1 is the last Version posted in the legacy Wyse Portal, later Versions are only available through the dell.com web site.
The only difference between 7.1 and 7.2 is the ability to Import vWorkspace license files into the WSM Admin console.
For WSM, vWorkspace Premier Edition per device licensing is recommended, which is very attractive compared to the former WSM licensing.

WSM 7.2 and vWorkspace 8.5 are available for customers with active WSM/vWorkspace Maintenance with no additional cost.
A license swap program exists which allows to access latest product editions from the software.dell.com site; please reach out to your local CCC Team if you want to participate.

MHaase,

I found a local person, but they told me that WSM seat licenses aren't transitionable unless you have seat maintenance bought on them.  So, even though the seat licenses were bought with the understanding that they had perpetual maintenance (they are registered with use up to year 2699), Dell Sales is saying we are out of luck because of the lack of a maintenance.

Such a bummer.

Thanks for your replies.

We have WSM server maintenance.  I think that entitles us to the swap to vWorkspace premier.  The CCC person said we didn't have maintenance on our seats, so he said the seats are not convertible.
