Black screen on P-20

Black screen on P-20

We are using Wyse P-20 (firmware version 3.2) zero clients with View 4.5 virtual desktops. After a client is idle for 10 minutes a black screen (blank screen, no display) appears. When you move the mouse, the display returns very briefly, then goes blank again, then control returns to the user.

This is a problem with the P-20, we do not have this issue with other thin clients or physical machines with VMware View software client connecting to the same virtual desktop.

Any help or further suggestions with this issue would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply Wallace.

Your post helped me narrow down the issue. The screensaver for the P-20 devices and GPO for the virtual desktops are both set to 30 mins. When the Win 7 image deployed it set the power options to turn off the monitor after 10 minutes. I have turned this off (again), and am testing my devices. I am not sure why that setting is not affecting my Windows physical devices running the soft client, but hopefully this resolves the issue. Also have to figure out why the power options are being reset when deploying the image.

Thanks again!

Actually, I'd like to get it to go black, and actually put the monitors in power save (otherwise we won't realize some of the energy savings from going thin-client)

The OSD screensaver timeout setting on the P20 itself, only seems to be in effect when the OSD is up and you are not conencted. If I set the "turn monitor off after" control in Win 7, the screen goes briefly black (<1sec) at the appointed time, (and Windows thinks the monitor is off..because it stops updating the clock gadget), however the screen continues to show on the P20 and stay live (as some other apps that don't care about power management keep updating). If I move the mouse, the same brief blackout happens again and the stopped gadgets start running again. Any ideas how I can get it to actually put the monitor in low-power mode?

This is with PCoIP using View 4.5

What is your screen saver set to on the VM and P-20? Are you applying a screen saver via GPO to the VM or P-20 via PCOIP Management Server?
Are the other 'working' clients using PCoIP or RDP? Are the P20s using PCoIP?
Also, the P20 will use Power management to control the monitor, but I believe that is a 900sec (15 min) timeout by default.

What I think may be happening

1. P20 is putting the attached monitor in power save mode (usually indicated by a amber, not green light)
2. The VM is also in a screen saver or screen power save state
3. User moves mouse, presses keys
4. P20 wakes up the screen and shows cached image -- Brief return
5. P20 received black screen from VM via screensaver or other screen power setting within the VM -- second black screen
6. VM receives the user input and 'wakes up' the virtual screen (really just a VGA state change or exit screensaver).
7. The user can continue to operate as normal
