What does 'refurbished drive new' mean? Remember Amazon is a marketplace/auction like eBay. Amazon does not sell refurbished drives. Private sellers do. Maybe try formatting it back to MBR and if it still has errors, return it to the seller.

Buy hard drives from reputable retail companies, not at auction.

Here's a thread about this--

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

Did you check the connections to the new HDD and which SATA port did you use?

What version of BIOS do you have installed? And you might try clearing BIOS. Be sure to reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup and copy down all current settings, to be safe. Then reset BIOS to the defaults and see if that solves the problem.

Use Crystal Disk-Info or free Passmark to read it's SMART status.

Buying used/refurbished drives is not a good practice ... now you know.
