Raid Controller on XPS 8100
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade a XPS 8100 i7 tower.
It has a IRST raid controller and Ive connected 2 x 4TB drives onto the board, but they are only showing at 1.6TB.
The new drives show up as 4TB on my Windows PC via a docking station.
As far as I am aware, the bios is up to date having ran the bios upgrade tool.
Any ideas much appreciated
John

Dell only supports Win 7 on this model. Back in those days drivers over a certain size had to be partitioned to work. I suspect this is the problem and there is no way to use the full 4GB drives (except partitioning) on systems such as this.
My own personal opinion, its better to use one drive and do regular full drive backups (disc images). I had a RAID system back in the Vista/Win 7 days and a Window update corrupted one of the drives. Fortunately the one drive was OK and I was able to recover with the one drive. Since then I only use one drive and do regular full drive backups (currently using the free Macrium Reflect) and that has served me well. RAID was fairly common at one time but I don't see many references to it any more.
We can't see images posted. There is forum bug that has yet to be corrected. Only you can see it.
