XPS 8700, HDD replacement

Have a XPS 8700. Suddenly cannot access drive d:. I believe the hard drive is fried!

machine still boots from the optical drive and I can access information on drives hook up to USB.

How can I replace the hard drive?. Is this something I should go to a tech or can do myself?

What version of Windows?

The boot drive is typically C: so what's on D: ?

Why do you say the hard drive is fried? Do you get an error message when trying to boot "normally" from the hard drive?

Reboot and immediately press F12. Look for option to run the diagnostics, including extended hard drive tests. Copy down error messages, if any.
