XPS 8930, eBay, warranty?

Hi!

I suppose to buy a Dell desktop XPS 8930, new one, from reseller on eBay. Will it be covered by Dell warranty?

If not, where and how I have to buy this desktop which has a Dell warranty?

If yes, what I have to do to get a Dell warranty if I need it?

Have the seller send the service tag to you before purchase.  If the service tag shows up as valid, a warranty transfer is all you need.  If the service tag does not show up as valid, buy elsewhere.

Dell does accept systems from 3rd parties like Costco. With the Service Tag you can tell what warranty, if any, remains on the system. The advantage of Costco is that they offer an additional warranty at no cost at the time of purchase after the Dell warranty expires.

The key is getting the exact name and zip code used to register the Service Tag when this PC was originally purchased.

If the eBay seller doesn't have that info or won't give you it to you, you won't be able to transfer the warranty, even if it's still in effect.

Proceed with caution.

You cant transfer warranty when the original owner does not do so.

Ownership Transfer must be done by the original owner.

Dell will NOT GIVE YOU the original owners information required to TRANSFER Ownership.

Here's what you will need

  • Service Tag of product to be transferred
  • Name and zip code used at time of purchase
  • Name and address warranty is being transferred to

DELL WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY OF THIS INFO and will deny transfer or registration. This has to be done by the ORIGINAL Owner.  Dell will not tell you in advance if the information is correct.

Retail Costco, Walmart,  BestBuy, machines must be REGISTERED within 30 days or they have no warranty past that.

Typically takes 15 business days for it to take effect after registering.

You cannot use this for EBAY.

The first line of Dell's Warranty and Ownership Transfer policy states: "You may request a warranty and/or ownership transfer if you have recently purchased or received a used Dell product...". It does not say the original owner has to request the transfer. All that is needed is the information stated in the Policy.

The seller MUST provide the name and address of the current, registered owner.  If they can't, you'll have no warranty.

If the person moved and has a different address they will deny. You must know the address of the person AT THE TIME ORDERED.  If they moved you are out of luck.

Your statement about what is or isn't required is completely wrong.

Someone from Dell may contact you via email to clarify the information you have supplied and may ask for a proof of purchase to allow the transfer to be processed.

Especially if the system came from a Different Country.

AKA I have had systems DENIED due to being purchased in Canada and sold to me via Ebay.

A reseller on ebay isn't dell.

Dell does not accept systems from 3rd parties for warranty.

So what if you bought it from Walmart, Amazon, or Best buy?

And what about transferring a warranty to a new buyer after you bought it?

That makes sense because you can't depend on a seller to bend over backwards to assure your warranty or what's left of it and exactly when does this warranty start?

It all sounds hit and miss I think I will keep buying from Dell on their annual sale or the bargain  bin.
