XPS 8930, no access to shared folder

From the XPS 8930 connected in wifi is not possible access to shared folder on the lan. Ping and access from ftp or browser work normally.

From a notebook asus is possible open shared folder. Same Windows version, same update and (apparently) same settings for wifi card, network, etc.

I have already tried several solutions proposed on the web but nothing working. Any suggestions are welcome.

In Win 10, open Control Panel>Network & Sharing Center>Advanced Sharing Settings.

Make sure Network Discovery and File & Printer Sharing are both enabled for the Private and/or Guest & Public profiles, as appropriate for your network configuration. Be sure to save the changes, if any, and reboot...

@tommy333 Perhaps these screenshots will help explain. You will have to wait until the moderator approves the images in order to see them.

The first screenshot shows the Private settings and the second screenshot, obtain by clicking on the down-arrow at the end of 'Guest or Public' shows the Guest or Public profile,

HomeGroup , peer to peer and other Items are removed from current windows 10

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/homegroup-removed-from-windows-10-version-1803-07ca5db1-7bca-4d11-68a3-a31ff4a09979#

HomeGroup removed from Windows 10 (Version 1803) and later.

  • HomeGroup won’t appear in File Explorer.
  • HomeGroup won’t appear in Control Panel, which means that you can’t create, join, or leave a homegroup.
  • HomeGroup won’t appear on the Troubleshoot screen when you go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot .
  • You won’t be able to share or access new files and printers using HomeGroup.

Note: The HomeGroup (view) and HomeGroup (view and edit) options still appear in Windows 10 (Version 1803 or later) when you right-click a folder in File Explorer and then point to Give access to. However, neither option does anything.

To share a file or folder, select Specific people from the same shortcut menu instead.

Windows 10 - Open control panel and click Network and Internet. Click Network and sharing center. Click Change advanced sharing settings to the left of your network name.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

Read How to Fix Error 0x80004005

"Error 0x80004005 is translated as an unspecified error and is usually seen when the user cannot access Shared Folders, Drives, Virtual Machines and..."

Hi. @rcelle ,

An IP Address of 192.168.1.1 is often associated with accessing the Router.

Since you mention that other PCs can access the Shared Folder, can I ask:-

Where is the Shared Folder located (part of another PC or located as a "N.A.T.S. device on the Router)?

On the "other PCs"(that can "see" the Shared Folder), can you confirm that they also looking at an IP Address of 192.168.1.1?

@rcelle  - The error message you posted shows the Win 10 error 0x80004005. So the error is confined to this PC, and doesn't involve others on your network.

Did you try any of the fixes at the link I posted above where "...the user cannot access shared folders, drives...?

@rcelle  Is this a new problem or has this always been an issue?

Did you recently update to Win 10 v2004?

If this is a new problem and you haven't updated to v2004, you could try a System Restore to the last restore point before this problem started.  Any new software or updates installed after the date of the restore will have to be reinstalled, but personal files won't be affected.

That  said, always good to back up personal files on external media before doing a System Restore, to be safe.

Are you using some additional software for this VPN or just what's available in Win 10?

And I suppose it could be an issue with v2004. Are the other PCs, that are working correctly on this VPN, running v2004 or are they running a prior version of Windows?

No additional software for vpn. The notebook is update to 2004 but it is "born" with windows 7.
