XPS 8940, freezing up

I have a Dell XPS 8940 64 GB RAM, ITB SSD I7 processor that is about 3 years old.  It has performed flawlessly up until about 2 months ago.  It has started freezing up.  The screen retains a display, but all controls are frozen.  The only way to get out is to force the power off and restart and you get the blue screen options.  This computer was delivered with Windows 10 and I have upgraded to windows 11 a year or so ago as an online download from Microsoft.  I have contemplated reinstalling windows, but I hesitate before asking are there any other simpler options.  I would like to retain my data and apps as many are one use purchases and I wouldn't like to lose them.  Freezing is up to 3 times a day so far and when I trying to do taxes it's pretty frustrating.

Many thanks for your advise, George

It is a more than common issue for XPS 8940, there are many users with the same or similar issue and some have resolved theirs, but not through OS reinstallation.  Review through the discussion from this topic before making change to your operating system  https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps-desktops/xps-8940-freezing-again-after-almost-a-year-without-freezing/650c74c82ae49d628fae48ed

For short, if your system has an NVIDIA discrete graphics card, the most favor work around is go to NVIDIA Manage 3D Settings and set Power Management Mode to Prefer maximum performance.
