XPS 8950, 4K support requires Intel SGX enabled in BIOS

I have a Dell XPS 8950 Desktop and need to enable Intel SGX (Software Guard Extensions) in the BIOS (Set to Software Controlled). Does anyone know how to do this? Is it not needed with Windows 11. I have an Intel i9-12900 CPU. I am trying to play 4K disk using a drive capable of playing 4K.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have to install the SGX drivers and PSW? The 2nd and 3rd docs listed at right side of that page mention Win 11...

I'd manually set a System Restore point and/or image the boot drive before installing them, to be safe...

I have a nvidia 3070 8gb card installed.  Even with this card installed I still get a message that the Intel SGX must be enabled.

@RoccoP326

Did you look at the link I posted? There's a download button for SGX PSW for Windows v2.14.101.1

You'll have to unzip that file first and then run the installer.

And over on the right side of same page, there are links to 3 documents. I was referring to the 2nd and 3rd links on that list:

I’m not sure what you mean by 2nd and 3rd Docs.  I do not even see anyplace that have the SGX drivers you are referring to.  Can you clarify?

Thanks.  I did not see the link highlighted in the first email.  Going back I now see it.  I will back up the desktop overnight and try it out tomorrow.

That's why you need to come back to the forum when you get an email alert about a new post in a thread where you're subscribed.

Especially important if the person who wrote the post has amended/corrected it. You don't get a second alert for a post that was changed/updated....

Ron,

Before installing I read the pdf install instructions.  In multiple places it talked about installing the file on a PC that supported SGX.  Under Prerequisites it stated the following....

I had hoped you found the solution but I fear not.  I think I need dell or Intel to tell me what is the 4K solution for 12 Generation Processors as maybe there is another extension that they plan on implementing of maybe it needs to be built into the add on graphics card.

Well, as I said above, if this is 4K (UHD) Blu Ray, you can no longer play it on a PC with either an 11th or 12th Gen Intel CPU. Standard def Blu Ray will still work...

I have been watching this thread. If you find a solution (if there is a solution) to your issue, will you please post it?

@kras1  - There is no solution if you're trying to play 4K Blu Ray discs, other than connecting a BR player directly to a 4K-compatible TV.

You can blame Intel for removing this capability from their CPU chips...

@kras1  Guess they're all trying to crack down on DRM violators who make counterfeit 4K BR discs...

Yeah, I figured that was probably going to be the result, But I had wishful thinking and hope that somehow a solution would be found. Oh well, it is not the end of the world, just a bit disappointing. Who knew that 4K would be so challenging on a PC? (Apparently Amazon won't let a PC stream 4K.....so much for all the 4K content I purchased.....)

That is exactly what they are trying to do. I'm not saying that combatting piracy isn't important but the methods sure are unfavorable for paying customers like myself and many others.

I guess it's better to punish the people who are honest then to put an effort to stop only the ones who are cheating.
