XPS 8950, DIMM1 won't recognize Crucial 32GB DDR5

Hi all,

I have a new 8950 i7-12700, it was ordered with the minimum 8GB of DDR5 as I already had a 64GB kit of Crucial DDR5, 2x CT32G48C40U5.  This ram is validated in on the Crucial site for this system.  With just the OEM shipped 8GB stick in DIMM1, no issues.  If I try to add the 32GB Crucial sticks I can only get the MB to POST or BOOT if I use any other slot than DIMM1.   That is, if I use DIMM1 only with a single 32GB stick or with a second 32GB stick in any other slot (DIMM2,3,4) no go.  I only get a flashing white/amber power light (two blinks white, two blinks amber).  I can however, use DIMM2 and 3, or 2 and 4 or 3 and 4.  Just cant use slot 1.

I am also noticing some instability once booted with random blue screens with the two 32GB modulus, in this case slots 2 and 4.  Default BIOS settings, the 32GB sticks do show up in the BIOS and via CPUZ correctly.  I suspect there is a problem with DIMM1 and this is leading less than optimal configuration using the other slots resulting in the instability.

Has anyone else been able to run 2x 32GB sticks in the 8950?   If so, which slots are you using?

Keep in mind that physical RAM slot 1, counting from the CPU, is not DIMM1. It's DIMM3.

Post back and let us know how the replacement works...
