Cloning images of drives is not supported by Dell Or Microsoft.

If you have any issues with your cloning you will have to take that up with Acronis.

The non support of 3rd party software like GHOST or Acronis True Image goes back to WINDOWS NT.

Sysprep images are not clones.

Cloning or duplicating an installation instead of making a sysprep image can lead to duplicate SIDs.  It can also lead to a problem called disk signature collision.

You may run into following disk collision error messages in Windows 10.

• The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible
• The disk is offline because it has a signature collision
• This disk is offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online.

Windows 7  Legacy MBR partitions are never an option for systems past 6th gen Skylake.

All systems from ALL vendors are 64 bit WIN10 only.  Older OS including windows XP VISTA 7 and 8 are End of life never to be used again.

There will also not be ANY 32 bit drivers.

ATI NVIDIA INTEL and other vendors have gone along with this.

UEFI GPT booting is the ONLY option for internal SATA or PCI-E storage.

Legacy MBR and ATA mode are no longer supported for booting.

The MSR wont be visible.

After your first feature update there will be 5 partitions.  None of them are optional.

so not to be to technical, after reading all that, i'll have 5 partitions, boot, efi, winre, c, d?

will acronis create a image or is it useless? if so how do i create image backups of 10 pro/ home?

is veritas system recovery out too?

the sysprep is new to me...i've been at this for 30 years, slow to learn the next OS's

how  do you restore systems that fail? hdd's mobos etc?

i don't do file/folder backups, just  full system images, not clones on win 7, both VHD, AND Ghost 15 2vi

yes i'm familiar with ghost, no i do not plan on using, windows 7 ''create image'' on 10 that was an example of what i'd see, i get it's been ''decapitated'', namely restore failures...

next you'll tell me i cannot create a hyper-v or a 7 VM  on 10

fwiw my win 7 computer runs like a charm, all my legacy programs, etc., yall are almost scaring me away... almost.

@deauxwolf   - You can use the free version of Macrium Reflect to create a backup image.

Just keep in mind your backup is only as current as the last one you made, so you have to make them on a regular basis...

And if necessary, you can always download the latest Win 10 ISO image for free from Microsoft to create a bootable USB stick if you ever need to do clean install or just to repair the current installation of Win 10. But a clean install removes all your personal files, your settings, and any apps you installed.

I would follow @RoHe suggestion and use the free edition of Macrium Reflect to create backup images of whole drives or individual partitions. Also, be aware that Macrium Reflect can also create Rescue Media that you can use to restore the backup images if your drive becomes unbootable.

yall may not work for dell, you do represent them.

i've got 30 years behind computers and IT, when i have a question, it's because i looked for hours before asking. i also expect answers, esspecially with untold sales on the line.

m. dell and marino at emc did well by me and my clients in the 90's- 2000, we  in return did untold fortunes in business with them.

the reviews show why dell declined over the decades.
