17-9700 Power on problems
The laptop would not power-on. I disassembled, removed the battery, put it back in again; the system would not power on whether the power supply was connected or not, or whether the battery was in or not. I left it connected to the power supply over the weekend and on Monday it powered on, taking me directly to CMOS setup to enter current date/time. For the next few days I did typical troubleshooting (updates/BIOS/etc.) and had no problems. Battery power seemed normal.
Now the laptop will not power on again. Any help would be appreciated -- thx in advance.

I think there is something wrong with the XPS 17 9700 laptops in terms of power management. Our computer has had issues not charging and running the battery completely out while either the power supply was plugged in or if connected to the Dell USBC docking hub. Often unplugging the USBC cord and plugging it into another one of the slots on the computer will cause it to start charging again and other times no. When the computer runs until the battery is dead it is often hard to get it to start again. This computer has been like this since day one. It is definitely defective and though we have bought many dell computers, accessories and Printers over the years both for our home and business. I no longer trust that dell will take care of issues and their phone support seems like they only want to assist for $$$$.

@Laurie GFIS I'm having exactly the same issue!!! And same guess, the power management IC definitely has some defects with IOs. I was hoping to get a stable yet powerful PC, but now Dell gives me this junk.

Hello people.
I am having the same problem. Can someone please help me? What i need to do to fix the issue?
My computer is not turning on. And now it only blinks slowly the white light. I have tried to rebute it several times.
Can someone help me? This model is not sold in Brazil. So no service can actually help me here.

As I always have power on problems after disconnecting the battery for SSD replacement here some hints, which might help somebody:
To check, if the battery is dead, you can:
- Disconnect the power cord
- Disconnect the battery (battery removal is not needed)
- Plug in the power cord
- Push the ON button
If the system starts (you can see the boot logo), you might have either a dead battery or the same problem I had after SSD replacement. If the system does not start, you do not have a problem with your battery.
If the system starts with unplugged battery and you assume that your battery is not dead, you can try following steps to bring your battery back to life:
- Unplug power cord
- Unplug battery
- Push ON button for 15 seconds to discharge (just to make sure that the system is not in a wired condition)
- Plug in the power cord (do NOT plug in the battery)
- Push ON button and enter BIOS setup (e.g. by pressind F12 during boot and selecting BIOS setup in the menu)
- Only if you have password in BIOS set: Remove all BIOS passwords, reboot the system and reenter BIOS
- Reset the BIOS settings to BIOS defaults (not user defaults)
- Set battery configuration to "Standard"
- Save the changes and let the system reboot
- Power off the system (either by shutting it down from your OS or holding the power button some seconds pressed)
- Do NOT disconnect the power cord
- Carefully plug in the battery while the power cord is still connected and the system is powered off
- Power on your system and check, if the battery is recognized in BIOS (battery charge icon in the upper right corner should show a value >0%)
You can try now if your system can boot with connected battery and check if the battery is charged.
I don't know if all of the above steps are needed, but they worked for me as my system will neither charge the battery nor boot with connected battery after disconnecting the battery for SSD replacement.
If the battery is recognized, you can try to

@Tiberivs I have the same issue. No power on at all - I get a red LED light when the power button is pressed. Anyone have an idea of what this failure mode is?

@Tiberivs Thank you for responding. I figured it was the main board as I tried pulling the battery, doing a hard reset, etc. The problem persisted. Oh well!
