It could be a problem with your hard drive. Have you run system diagnostics yet? Restart the system and at the Dell splash screen start tapping F12. Run full system diagnostics paying special attention to the hard drive results.
Thank you! I recently tried using the sfc /scannow command, which found a few errors that were then repaired using the DISM command. I will try your suggestions and update the thread.
Yesterday I replaced the Dell 1830 Wi-Fi card using the Intel 9260, and I can happily say I haven't had any issues. So, my best guess was that it was due to driver incompatibility, or something that went wrong with windows update 1803. Furthermore, I rolled back to Bios 1.8.0 from 1.9.0, and this also resolved the issue I had with the laptop not being able to return from sleep or randomly crashing to black screen after going to sleep (the PC would be awake, but unresponsive to any input and had to be forced shut down using the power button).

Also more information from another forum post. And yes it deals with the wifi card and drivers, and in one case the BIOS.

So here's an update:
Yesterday I replaced the Dell 1830 Wi-Fi card using the Intel 9260, and I can happily say I haven't had any issues. Thanks for your help anyway!
