can't activate windows on xps 13 error 0x803FA067

Question

Hello,

I have an xps 13 9360 that won't activate windows after reinstall. I've confirmed on dell's support page that it was originally sold with windows 10 home, which is what I have installed. I've updated windows to 2004.

error reads:

We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. Error code: 0x803FA067

Machine is out of warranty so dell isn't able to help me. any ideas?

Was the system ever repaired (specifically, was the system board ever replaced under warranty)?

owned since new. do not have the packaging from it anymore.

no the mobo has never been replaced

no unfortunately not. I'm just going to buy a new license; I'll burn through $150 of man hours pretty quick trying to troubleshoot this. annoying.

if by any chance you have retail licence key for windows 7 or 8 then try putting it in in settings>activation> change product key.
