Charger burned out

Question

Plugged in laptop charger - it sizzled and burnt out. The laptop charging port and the charger that connects to the laptop still smell burned. Was also charging phone and a light - they are still ok so not a plug issue. The laptop still turns on and works but no longer will charge (obviously)    The laptop was bought only 2 years ago and is over 1.5 grand so would expect it to last longer without problems (it's no longer under warranty - although under UK  consumer law I think things are ment to be covered for 6 years)    Does anyone know if a new charger will  fix the problem or if the laptop needs to be taken apart or the best way to contact Dell ? There's no way to know without checking inside the system to see what's damaged. At minimum, expect to replace the adapter and the DC input jack.

If the surge damaged components on the mainboard, which is very possible -- the board could require replacement as well.

Hey, thanks   The charger seems to work but the battery seems dead - too scared to use it so will send in or checking n fixing
