Closed LID+External display = Fan Noise

Hello, when I am working with Dell XPS 13 9300 laptop in usual way it is deadly silent almost all of the time. But when I connect external monitor using adapter and external keyboard and mouse and close lid it became  noisy because of fans which starts from time to time. All the same apps are opened, but so huge difference in noise comfort. I use silent scenario in Dell power manager with charger pluged in directly in usb c port. So the question is, if Dell XPS 13 9300 suitable for working with closed lid, or ventilation could not working normally in such case?
