Dell XPS 15 BOIS Update problems

Question

I'm wondering if anyone has had problems with the BIOS update to 1.9.1?

I ran the Support Assist tests yesterday and on the update section i was informed there was a BIOS update (1.9.1)

After installing the update the fan was constantly running and on occasion it sounded like it was going to take off! Way to noisy to work with! I reverted back to 1.8.1 and all is OK again.

Have to say, I'm not impressed with this laptop at all. The one I currently have is a a replacement for the one originally ordered back in June. The original laptop had fan issue and to be fair, they did replace most of it during the fault finding process i.e. both fans replaced ....twice! and also the motherboard replaced. eventually I was just issued a new one that has, until now been OK.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced issues with BIOS 1.9.1? Support assistant said it was an urgent update so I'm wondering if I'm leaving myself vulnerable to problems by not having it installed now?

I have just finished installing the new BIOS. After waiting about an hour and a half I held down my Start button until the computer shut down. I rebooted and checked to see what version of BIOS was on my Laptop, it showed 1.8.1. I ran my Dell check for updates, and it showed just one around 20 MB. I chose, install, and then followed the instructions to finish the install of the new BIOS 1.9.1. I had to reboot. I am on my Laptop now. I would provide an image from my CPU-Z, but I get the message, (You do not have permission to upload images.)

I have a xps 15 7590 and updated to  1.9.1 from  1.8.1 yesterday. I did a manual install of the bios and so far haven't experienced any of the issues you are seeing.

Same issue here. Screen stayed black and now i run all the time into memory issues. Seams something is not ok with this update. I will rollback to 1.8.1

Hi, Already done! Reverted back to 1.8.1 and all good. I'm going to follow this up with Dell  wish me luck!!

After the rollback now everything runs again fine and smoothly. Go to the Driver Support Page, search for the last Bios Update and select old versions and install the last Bios Version that worked for you.

Seems the issue is caused when installing the Bios Update via the Dell Support Assist Application. After the rollback to 1.8.1 i downloaded 1.9.1 directly from the Dell Support Site and updated the Bios again, without any issues till now.

Try installing BIOS updates manually.

First method:

Create a new folder on your desktop named “BIOS Update”

Then download your BIOS update from your Driver Support page.

Copy the update to that folder you just created.

Close all Windows and Apps you may have open.

Go to the folder, right click on the update file and “Run as Administrator”

Second method:

Create a bootable USB drive using “Rufus”

Copy the BIOS update to the bootable USB drive you just created..

Insert USB drive, power-on and start tapping the “ F12 “ key.

Boot from USB and run the BIOS update.

After reboot test and post any results.

I'm trying to install the update now and it has been showing a black screen for over an hour. I have Windows 10 Pro 20H2 with all updates. I will give it a little longer and if it doesn't work then I will roll back to the old BIOS. My Laptop is the Dell XPS 15 7590.

tried updating to 1.9.1 again but this time from the dell download site but same fan noise problem. I've reverted back to 1.8.1 and seems OK again. i've been told that once reverted back to 1.8.1 reset the bios defaults and then upgrade again.
