Driver Intel 2D Imaging/MCU/Visual Sensing Controller causing the webcam to fail
Hi Support & Community,
Has anyone tried the latest Intel 2D Imaging/MCU/Visual Sensing Controller Driver (73.22000.1.20, A02)? I've installed it on my XPS 13 Plus and it's causing the camera to fail. The camera device shows up in Device Management but a couple of Intel USBl2c devices is showing up as "device cannot start". The OS (Windows 11) also does not see a camera within Settings.
If I reimaged the computer with a fresh copy of Windows 11 and install the version <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> the camera works. But once I run Windows Update, it updates the driver to the latest which then causes the camera not to start or get recognized by Windows at all.
Does anyone know how to report this type of issue with Dell? Or does this community forum get monitored by Dell Support? It's quite frustrating since I can't opt this driver update out. It's automatically installed.
Best,
J.T.

@DELL-Nat M did not work for me and I have no way of getting assistance as the warranty has expired. What are my options?

Anyone got a July '24 update for this?
This issue has clearly done the rounds but the issue still persists and the latest (A06) update from Dell does not clear it.
Thanks

HI,
@CarlosAHS , we have the same issue. Changed drivers and installed the new one mentioned before. This is far away from being the solution. There must be something else, to solve the issue with Windows 10 Laptops Modell 7350
Can someone help?

I have had a whole slew of 7440's have this issue and a co-worker and I have deep dove the issue and found a current working solution/fix for this. I was at the point about to call Dell to service this machine, but we stuck it out and got it to work. Here is what we did.
1) Go to Device Manager and Check the Intel ATL Driver version (Mine was using 1/11/23 and version 64.xxx) ((Bad guy))
2) Go Down to System Devices - and there should be TWO camera sensors there (HI556/OGOVA1B) ((Naming may vary))
We Uninstalled all 3 originally, but in the even that the two sensors have this version below - you only need to uninstall the camera.
The desired version and date of the driver are as follows (in my scenario)
For the sensors
Driver Date: 5/25/2023
Driver Version: 63.22000.12449.1
For the Camera
5/11/23
63.22000.12449
If you notice that the driver is correct on the sensors but not the Camera do the following:
Uninstall Camera and device drivers
Reboot
Check windows updates
Scan for hardware changes
Check camera driver again - you want 5/25/2023 version
This fixed it for us - and have done this for about 5 7440's as of todays date.
The driver that came imaged did not work.
We originally thought it was due to a bad USB 3.10 eXHC root hub in the USB Devices/controllers and we also uninstalled those and rescanned those - but that did not fix it for every one we had, just some.
So you may want to try that.
Device manager-USB Controllers - Uninstall and remove USB 3.10 XHC controller and rescan
Check camera
We also uninstalled USB Device Bridge and rebooted and let windows determine the correct driver, but that doesn't always work in our case.

@Improven Would you be able to expand on some of the details for the sensors? We have a slew of Dell Inspiron 7440 and 7640 models with this exact issue. We've tried all sorts of drivers and the camera driver for the "Intel AVStream Camera" is at the 5/11/23 63.22000.3.12449 version for us, but I'm not quite following where to find these camera sensor devices or the driver for those. I don't see them in System Devices, but I have two "Intel(R) USBl2c Device" devices that show "STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE" on them.
Then, under Other Devices, if I turn on hidden devices, I see two "Unknown device" which might be the sensors you're talking about which show HIMX1092 and OVTI02C1, but it tells me "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)".
My guess is that whatever is causing the "Intel(R) USBl2c" device power failure is not allowing the sensors to be powered and thereby is killing the camera.
Any help from anyone would be awesome! Thanks!

@DELL-Nat M I have just recently had the same problem with the built in OV02C10 webcam on my Dell Lattitude 9330. The Sept 2024 windows update caused teh camera to stop working.
I spent HOURS on line with Dell technicians with no luck.
There final recommendation was to do a full windows reinstall, which of course is a total pain in the butt.
After a bunch of hunting around I found this post and uninstalled the USB Bridge and loaded the driver linked in this post, and this fixed teh problem.
Worth noting that the description of how to find and uninstall the USB Bridge driver in this post were inaccurate. So we simply found it ourselves trhough device manager. Tried backdating the driver but that did not work, so then uninstalled the USB Bridge device. Installed the new cam driver through the link. Then immedietly when we retested the camera through google meets it had fixed the problem
Thanks for your assistance

@netMan63 Hello there. I dont know if you still need help with this issue. But for future readers, this problem still exists as of 1/15/2025.
Here's my solution, specifically for the Dell 5690 series.
It is as follow:
1. Disable camera driver in device manager (not sure if impactful. But I disabled it)
2. Scroll down to System Devices, expand the section
3. Look for 2 devices named, Intel(R) Usbl2c Device (its located around the middle of the section)
4. Uninstall those 2 devices, click on the check box for "Attempt to remove driver for device"
5. Begin adding in the driver. Order in which the folder is installed might have an impact, so write down your combinations.
6. After both driver is installed. Go to Action & click "scan for hardware changes"
7. Re-enable camera in Device Manager, and it should work
I have a really poorly made video "demonstrating" the process. But it's only on VM machine... It might help to have a visual process...

The USbl2c version has to be above 1.0.2xx I believe.
The driver that worked for me was at 1.0.3xx.
I dont even know where you can find the driver online for it.
I got lucky and had a working device out of 10's deployed that didnt. So I just copied its driver over...

UPDATE:
The steps required is actually about 4. You dont need to uninstall drivers or disable camera then re-enable.
Installation process V2 (DRAFT):
1. Click inside the Device Menu UI. (Otherwise "Action" will show no additional option)
2. Add the driver, the folder named: Second_...Amd64_acef9e.. folder
3. After driver is installed. It will automatically refresh the camera.
4. Open Camera app to double check.
Driver specific versions:
1.0.2.368 & 1.0.2. 221
I think Amd64_acef9e folder corresponds to 1.0.2.368.
While installing the Amd64_323635 simply reinstall 1.0.2. 221
Here's a weird discovery though. I had another unit that has functioning webcam with 1.0.2. 221 drivers.
So this issue goes deeper than just replacing drivers. We're probably just kick starting a process that's being suppressed or something.
I simply cant figure out any more detail than what's stated here.

@Aphima We actually were able to close out the issue on our end back around October 21st when a new sensing controller driver came up on Dell Command Update for the devices "Intel 2D Imaging/MCU/Visual Sensing Controller Driver for Camera" version 73.22000.1.15_A06. At that time, we had seen an updated version (73.22000.1.13_A05) on Dell's support site, but installing that version did not fix the issue. Installing the version that showed up in the Dell Command Update software immediately fixed the issue.
Note that for the one device we had that had the "STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE" on the "Intel(R) USBl2c Device", that we had to send back in for an actual hardware repair. We had a group of another 10 devices that just had the regular camera failure which was corrected by that new driver mentioned above.
