DVI to HDMI adapter

1) Need to connect older XPS (M1710) to HDTV using DVI to HDMI adapter                                                              Video card is NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS

2) Anyone know if basic DVI to HDMI cable (or adapter+cable) will work?                                                                Is audio outputted by DVI port on PC, or will I need separate audio cable?

Appreciate any insights re what will work

That laptop model is from 2006 so it is too old to work with a tv. The only connection for a tv is the obsolete S-video. See the manual for connecting to a tv.

@jerswing1  Please don’t listen to @Mary G , as she is very often wrong whenever she tries to talk about laptops and displays, and this is yet another example. HDMI to DVI adapters and HDMI to DVI cables are quite common, and they’ve been around so long that pretty much any brand should work fine. Note that if you get an HDMI to DVI adapter instead of a cable, make sure you get one meant to go the correct direction. There are female HDMI to maie DVI adapters and also female DVI to male HDMI adapters. The one you’ll need depends on whether you’ll be pairing it with an HDMI cable or a DVI cable. Or you can just get an HDMI to DVI cable and call it a day.

That cable will NOT carry audio, since DVI never carried audio, so you’ll need to make other arrangements for that.
