The fingerprint reader is optional on your model. Did you order it? Check your invoice.

Hi - Thanks for the suggestion. SGX is enabled and set to "software control".

Hi - Yes. The fingerprint reader has been working without issue for over a year.

The August Windows 10 update (KB4023057) was recently installed, but I don't recall if the fingerprint reader stopped working immediately after that update, or not.

Device manager is detecting a BIOS metric Device ??  Yes/no

You have already , done Drivers updates and Checked SGX settings in BIOS

Nothing much to do now, reinstall OS and ask Dell for part replacement.

@DCTechExec

Still waiting to hear if you tried an older driver and if so any success???

Check and verify in the Control Panel under Programs and Features, that the Intel Software Guard Extensions platform software is listed???

You said that SGX was set to "Software Control"

Was that the default setting and was there any other options???

Keep in mind if this is an "update" induced error then after a system restore you will have to keep watch when doing updates in the future.

As you may induce the same error again.

Best regards and good luck,

U2

Dell XPS 13 9310 (2021)

I had this same problem arise out of the blue recently. While trying to install the Goodix driver, I got the same error message, "Goodix fingerprint device was not found!". In Device Manager, I saw a device under USB devices called "Unknown USB device..." with a warning symbol beside it. I thought this may be the fingerprint reader, so I uninstalled the default driver it assigned to this unknown device by clicking Uninstall. Then, Goodix fingerprint automatically appeared under Biometric devices and the sensor starting working. If you follow these steps and the device does not start working, then I suggest you try installing the Goodix driver after uninstalling the driver for the unknown device.

After putting up with using a PIN, I finally took another look at this issue.

After installing updates for various firmware and drivers recommended by Dell, I uninstalled and reinstalled Goodix. Goodix showed up in device manager which said it was working, but it would not recognize a finger hitting the sensor.

I tried to update Intel Software Guard Extensions Platform, but the Dell Support site said that it was not compatible with my XPS 7390 which is strange because it shows up in the BIOS settings.

Under the security tab in BIOS, I changed the setting for SGX from "Software control" (recommended by support) to "Disabled" and rebooted. No love.

I then changed SGX from Disabled to Enabled and continued the boot sequence. Once again, I attempted to setup fingerprint reading and this time it recognized my finger on the sensor!!!

Don't know if this "fix" was due to a single step or some combination of all of them, but I can once again use the fingerprint scanning feature of my XPS.
