Hardware and software upgrade questions m1530

Old laptop question, have a 2007ish Dell xps m1530 and am currently locked out of it, will removing the CMOS and replacing the hard drive allow me to use it? If it does i was wondering what's the most powerful cpu it supports? And if I updated it to the m1530 a12 bios it should support 8gb of ram right? Lastly does Dell still make the batteries for it? Trying to make it so I can run Linux Lubuntu and have a 2tb hdd and as much ram as possible, any help appreciated thanks

Ok cool thank you, and yeah I kinda figured that, maybe I'll get lucky and it's just some of those barrel rechargeable batteries inside it so I can just buy some of those and restore the original one myself, I just hope removing the CMOS and replacing the hard drive gets me access to it

Fastest CPU, T9300

Max RAM 2X4=8G.

You may or may not be able to find new third-party batteries at this point, but anything OEM (Dell) will be ten years old or more;  the system dates from 2007, and OEM batteries are produced only for 4-5  years after the release date.

Even third party batteries may have limited availability, as the market for them in a system where most units are now long out of service, is very small.

If "locked out" means there's a password on the system powerup you don't have, you have two options:

Call Dell support and verify your ownership of the system;  they'll help unlock it.  There will be a standard support call charge for this, probably on the order of $80.

or, replace the system board (this will cost less).

I might have to replace the board then idk I got it thrifting and I tried the "safe mode with command prompt" way to reset it and it won't let me access that without the admin password I was just hoping putting a new hard drive in it and pulling out the CMOS for a bit would make it usable

If the system has a hard drive or powerup password, they're stored in EEPROM (and on the hard drive in case of the former).  Removing power to the board or replacing the drive will not remove the password.
