How to disable Dell Data Manager?
Is there any way to disable Dell Data Manager? It constantly consumes about 40% of my cpu. Every time I boot my laptop I have to stop that process. I didn't ever enable system recovery or any other related features which might run data manager.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and for your patience.
We are pleased to announce that a new version of SupportAssist, version 4.6.3 is now live and should resolve this issue. We kindly request you to install this update and share your feedback with us.

To check the SupportAssist version, please move your mouse to the top right corner and click on the service tag. You will see the SA version displayed.
If it shows the old version, please completely uninstall and then reinstall SupportAssist as per this article.
Wishing you a happy holiday season!

@ejn63 It looks like the article is slightly outdated and very basic. In Dell Support Assistant I never enabled System Repair. In Startup apps I don't have anything related to the Dell. So steps in the article are really confusing :(

It was installed unnoticed and system started using 100% memory and slow to a halt. Painstakingly tarted task manager and disable Dell Data Manager and then uninstall from Programs and Features.

@Vickisb540 Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
and then from the list displayed, look for Dell Data Manager and then right click on that and select uninstall.

I had this problem. Dell Data Manager was using 25GB of memory, pushing my memory usage up to around 100%. (25GB is an outlandish amount of memory. Something’s going wrong in Dell Data Manager.)
Apparently, Dell Data Manager is associated with Dell SupportAssist in some way. I uninstalled SupportAssist. I had to then reboot. Then Dell Data Manager was still there but it was using a normal amount of memory (29MB). Then I reinstalled Support Assist.
Dell Data Manager is still doing a surprising amount of disk I/O. It’s using about 30% of my disk I/O capacity. I wonder what’s up with that.
Whether the memory usage is resolved in the long-term remains to be seen.

Same problem here. Dell Inspiron is 7-9 years old running Win10 64 bit. Has ALWAYS run prefectly until Sunday 12/8/24. Now the background Dell software management stuff is causing the HDD to run at 100% usage and Memory at +50% CONTINUALLY. I unchecked the Dell mgnt stuff in Config.sys 4 hours ago and rebooted and the problems went away.
Dell needs to FIX whatever they broke!!! My PC was absolutely FINE until Sunday evening 12/8/24 and I made NO hardware or software changes at all during that time.

Disable the Dell Data Manager from Dell Support Assist in Apps & Features can only fix the memory issue temporarily. It'll be "trigger" back active by some system event. The permanent fix is to uninstall Dell Data Manager from Windows Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. The quick way to get to that : start the Control Panel from the command prompt (CMD), simply type "control" and press Enter. (Hit Windows key + R to get the RUN program screen and type "control" and press Enter, then find the Programs and Features, select it and then uninstall Dell Data Manager from the list displayed).

Do what ngyuensun says but you only have to remove "Dell Support Assist" that was installed on 6 December 24.....you can leave the one from 2020 and it fixes all the memory issues immediately....looks like they have some work to do on that update

For anyone still experiencing this, can you let me know the version of SupportAssist installed on the system?

@Dell-Brad L As I said in my post above, I fixed the memory problem but Dell Data Manager is doing heavy disk (/SSD?) I/O. It's running nonstop at about 30% of my I/O capacity, around 400-450 MB/s. I'm running SupportAssist 4.6.2. Dell Data Manager is 3.0.14.8163. (I'm on an Alienware Area-51 R-2 with Windows 10.)

@brettmcouver That is correct! The updated version installed (by Dell) on December 6 is causing the system performance issue. You can leave the older verion alone. When my system came to a halt, it was taking input (keystroke) very very slowly almost like with no response. Do this : hit Windows key + Shift + Esc at the same time to start Task Manager and you should see the task that is hogging the system in Red. And that is Dell Data Manager. You can right click that to "End Task" and free up the memory. Then go uninstall Dell Data Manager (the Dec 6 version or around that date) from Windows Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features.

@ngyuensun Correction: to start Task Manager, hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc at the same time.

Uninstalling DellSupportAssist completely fixed my issue. I don't know what version was installed, but the Dec update does sound suspect. If a corrected version is rolled out, please let us know when and how to reinstall, if it does anything critical.
