Mouse pointer freezes intermittently on XPS 15, but only using trackpad

I've got an odd, intermittent issue with my year-or-two-old XPS 15 7590, that has been happening ever since it was brand-new-out-of-the-box. Sometimes the mouse pointer freezes in mid-use. It just stops and won't respond, and kicks in and out about every three or four seconds. It will be working, then stop, then a few seconds later, be working again, etc., and this continues until I reboot. Rebooting usually fixes it. While the mouse pointer is frozen, everything else in Windows (Windows 10, latest patches) is working; the keyboard works, and no apps appear to be frozen. Just the mouse pointer.

I assumed it was just a weird quirk until recently I discovered that even when the mouse pointer is frozen with the trackpad, it works fine and is not frozen with a connected Bluetooth mouse. So it would appear to be an issue only with the trackpad. I've installed the official Dell trackpad driver, uninstalled and reinstalled it repeatedly, and nothing has worked to improve this issue. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
