@lawbar2

Thanks for the reminder - the BaseQI model model 731A fits perfectly into my XPS 9500.  It is almost precisely flush, but can easily be removed with a fingernail. I put it in and forgot it - (large micro SD card to store movies etc).

Google micro SD card adapter for lots of options. You don't say what computer you have. You normally can't add anything internally on a laptop.

Sorry, I meant a short adapter for the XPS 15 9500 -that I can leave in without danger of being damaged, and remove if needed.

I see the BaseQI line (expensive) fit various XPS models - none specifically for the 9500. I bought two  cheap adapters on Ali Express which fit, but didn't work at all (I suspect contacts didn't reach the contacts inside the slot

As accurately as I can measure (using a full size adapter), the xps 9500 slot has a depth of 22.5mm.  So I could order the 23mm version from BaseQi - the 731A is what BaseQi recommended, stating that it will stick out a "little bit"

Did you try the 23mm yet?  I tried my adapter from my Surface Book 2.  It's 20mm and was a tad too deep to where I couldn't pull it out without removing the baseplate.  The model for the 103A is 21.3mm I estimate will be more flush.  I have it in my Amazon cart, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
